GEM-Ash focuses our knowledge of Waste-to-Energy incinerator ash processing on the recovery of ferrous and non-ferrous metals contained within the ash. We particularly focus on the smallest particle sizes to ensure maximum potential recovery of metals, including the precious metals contained within the ash stream.
Ferrous Metal
The metals recovery equipment extracts the ferrous metals using magnets during the first stage of the process. Fine fraction and large fraction ferrous metals are separated and collected through the process. The ferrous metal is transported to nearby scrap dealers via 18-wheel end dump trucks.
Non- Ferrous Metal
Non‐ferrous metals from the recovery equipment is collected based on particle size. The metals recovery facility creates four size fractions of material: 0 to 6 mm (-1/4”), 6 to 12mm (1/4” to 1/2”), 12 to 50mm (1/2” to 2”) and greater than 50 mm (2”+). The smaller non‐ferrous metals with a particle size below 14mm are combined for shipping to off‐site upgrade facilities globally to be further sorted into light non‐ferrous and heavy non‐ferrous.
GEM-Ash brings a global network of metal off‐take customers that enable consistent premium product pricing to optimize profit over time. Our hedging strategies, blending capabilities, long‐term customer relationships and global marketing channels ensure maximum revenues.
